Abstract

Cholesterol is an important precursor that plays a role in the production and regulation of various sterol group compounds, especially steroid hormone compounds, androgen hormone compounds, cortisol compounds, and estrogen compounds. This herb is known to have the effect of improving glucose regulation by increasing glucose intake into cells and tissues. Its ability to improve cell and tissue metabolism is mediated by the content of secondary metabolite compounds. This ability is believed to have the potential to improve cholesterol regulation. Bay leaf extract is effective in lowering cholesterol levels through regulation of Acetyl CoA production.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a degenerative disease that continues to increase in number in Indonesia and is a disease that is spread throughout the world due to unbalanced nutritional conditions. Treatment of diabetes mellitus is a chronic and lifelong treatment. Treatment of diabetes mellitus, such as the use of insulin and oral antihyperglycemia drugs, is relatively expensive, is used for a long time and can cause unwanted side effects. There are many plants that have potential as antihyperglycemia drugs. One of the active compounds that act as antihyperglycemia is flavonoids.Flavonoids derived from various types of plants studied are thought to act as antihyperglycemic agents. Flavonoids are known to have the ability to scavenge free radicals or act as natural antioxidants. The antioxidant activity of flavonoids is related to phenolic –OH groups which can capture or neutralize free radicals (such as ROS or RNS). Flavonoids can play a role in pancreatic tissue damage caused by DNA alkylation due to alloxan induction as a result of improving the morphology of the rat pancreas.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar due to defects in insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, or both. The number of people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia has increased every year. The number of people with diabetes is 6.9% in 2013 to 10.9% in 2018. Various therapies have been carried out for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus, one of which is herbal therapy. Gynura procumbens is a plant that is widely used as a treatment for diabetes mellitus, kidney, rash and fever, and hypertension. The flavonoid content in Gynura procumbens replaces the decrease in blood sugar. This review article attempts to explain the role of Gynura procumbens as an antidiabetic therapy in previous studies. The method used in this article is through searching articles through the NCBI database and Google Scholar. The results of an article search found that Gynura Procumben has antidiabetic potential which can reduce blood sugar in patients with Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack.) is a species belonging to Simarobuaceae that has been long used as traditional medicine, which is known very well as an aphrodisiac. The studies have been conducted to reveal the benefits of E. longifolia through ethnobotany, phytochemical, and bio essay approaches, but the review articles on its utilization and bioactivity are limited. This article is based on scientific articles published online or offline, then synthesized so that to be information on the relationship between use and bioactivity. Ethnobotany of E. longifolia has been used as a medicine for fever, malaria, improved stamina, diabetes, cancer, aphrodisiac, and erectile dysfunction. The bioactivity of E. longifolia is antiosteoporotic, antimicrobial, aphrodisiac, anticancer, angiogenesis, and hepatoprotective. Eurycomanone is a secondary metabolite in E, longifolia has activity as an antimalaria, antipyretic, aphrodisiac, and cytotoxic. The quassinoids, coumarin, and glycosides of El have activity increase the production, quality, totality, synthesis, and release of spermatozoa. Eurycoma longifolia is very potential to be developed as an antiosteoporotic and a prosidiac drug, but until now most of it is harvested directly from the forest, so to preserve it, we need to study the cultivation method.

By the local communities in Java, it has been used as a component of the Jammu and the traditional medicine. This article is based on literature from offline and online media. Offline literature used the books, whereas online media used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals. Based on a study of ethnobotany Curcuma zedoaria was used as medicine and spices. The main secondary metabolites of Curcuma zedoaria rhizomes are terpenoids, especially sesquiterpenoids and monoterpenoids. Curcuma zedoaria have bioactivities as anticholesterol, anti-tumor/cancer, anti-inflammation, fever, antipyretic, analgesic dan anti-microbial
